A chance remark, made at our Dinnington Heritage Society meeting, led us to think about holding an exhibition to illustrate how the opening of Dinnington Pit, in 1905, changed Dinnington, from a small agricultural village, to what it is today. Photographs, artefacts and stories began to flood in.
A great deal of interest was generated by the exhibition which we held at St Leonard's Church, Dinnington, in September 2013. The following September, to coincide with the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War, we staged another exhibition, which this time was dedicated to the brave men of Dinnington, who gave their life for their country in this dreadful conflict. We were delighted with the response from the local community!
The next question was what were we to do with all the photographs and information we had amassed as a result of the two exhibitions.
The idea of creating a web site was born!
The idea is to upload as many photographs as we can to the site and then ask if any of you out there have photographs that you could loan to us, so we can scan them to add to our collection.
Our thanks go to Fred Gething, of the Thurcroft Colliery and Village Web Site, who generously gave of his time and expertise to talk us through the mysteries of Weebly, our web site host.
Please bear with us while we get the site up and running. This is very much "work in progress" and because web building is very new to us, there are bound to be lots of mistakes as we are learning.
If you can offer any help, information or photographs please contact Jeanette or Linda
and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

It would be good to hear from people who were brought up in Dinnington but have left the village. Perhaps you could comment on our guest page and tell us of your connection with the area and share memories with us.

Melvyn Lawton
7th October 1951 - 13th May 2015
Sadly, one of our group's founder members, Melvyn Lawton, passed away in May
2015 before our web site was launched. He was able to see some of the site, just a few days before his death, and was delighted that we were now making our resources available to anyone with an interest in our village and its heritage. We will miss Melvyn's help and lively contributions to our meetings and would like to dedicate this site to him.
