A famous Dinnington Miners’ Welfare Player
By Ricky Powell
A little bit of history for the Dinnington Welfare Football Club was made during the early sixties when a young man called Mick Jones played for the club.
As a player of the club during that time, I worked for Carlton Cycles in Worksop; Mick Jones came to work at Carlton Cycles and I persuaded him to come to Dinnington Welfare to play for the club. He did so for a few games, but was snapped up by Sheffield United. He then went on to play for Leeds United and became an England International player during that time.
I still see him occasionally as he resides in South Anston.
